The F.A Cup resumes again this weekend, with excitement building as we reach the latter stages of the competition. The remaining teams will be giving their all, knowing that a final at Wembley is just two wins away. There is sure to be plenty of action over the course of the weekend. Here are our experts predictions for Saturdays quarter-final games.
Swansea v Tottenham (12:15 GMT)
Our first match of the day sees two in-form Premier League teams go head to head for a place in the semi-finals. Hosts Swansea have had some good results in 2018, including wins against heavyweights Arsenal and Liverpool in recent months. These results will give them confidence that they can beat anyone on their day. They’ll need to be on their best form however, if they are going to progress against Saturday’s opponents Tottenham Hotspur. The London side are in some form of their own, having not lost in domestic competition since December.
Both sides will go into the tie without their top goalscorers. Tottenham ace Harry Kane is currently sidelined with an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Swansea forward Jordan Ayew is suspended after picking up a red card in his last domestic game. Swansea are also without Andre Ayew and Andy King, who are both cup-tied. With these key players missing out it, is hard to see where the goals are going to come from. With this in mind we think that Tottenham will pick up a narrow victory to keep their unbeaten run going.
Scoreline Prediction: Swansea 0-1 Tottenham
Most Likely Goalscorer: Son Heung-Min
Manchester United v Brighton (19:45 GMT)
Manchester United host Brighton in Saturday’s other quarter-final. The hosts will be under some pressure as their supporters will be expecting some silverware this season. After bowing out of the Champions League in midweek, and with the Premier League title all but lost, this competition will be seen as their last chance. Manager Jose Mourinho’s job will most likely be safe regardless, as they look set to secure 2nd place in the Premier League. However, winning the F.A Cup could improve his waning popularity amongst the fans.
After a fantastic February, Brighton now sit 7 points above the Premier League relegation zone. With that in mind they can afford to focus their attention on other competitions too. They will come into this with some good form behind them and they’ll be looking to win. They should be able to give Manchester United a run for their money in their current form. We predict this game to be so close that extra-time will be required to settle the tie. Manchester United will find a way through in the end though, as they quite often do.
Scoreline Prediction: Manchester United 1-1 Brighton (2-1 After Extra-Time)
Most Likely Goalscorer: Marcus Rashford
